The editors at DailyHaiku are thrilled to announce the impending launch of our new sister journal: DailyHaiga. DailyHaiga is an edited journal of contemporary and traditional haiga, available online at http://www.dailyhaiga.org. Following the format of DailyHaiku (http://www.dailyhaiku.org), DailyHaiga will present a new piece each day from one of the site's contributors.

Those new to the form will find that haiga moves beyond the boundaries of written verse—pairing haiku with an image that expands or juxtaposes the moment explored in the haiku.

Over the next few months, DailyHaiga will feature work from renowned invited artists, including: an'ya, Susan Constable, Billie Dee, Lary Fraser, Allison Millcock, Sakuo Nakamura, Linda Papanicolaou, Carol Raisfeld, Ray Rasmussen, Emily Romano, Alexis Rotella, and Liam Wilkinson.

The site features sophisticated archiving and search functions with easy navigation between current and previous haiga. DailyHaiga also syndicates content, and is available through your favorite RSS or Atom feedreader at http://www.dailyhaiga.org/rss/.

General submissions will open on July 1st. Guidelines for email submissions can be found at http://www.dailyhaiga.org. In addition to new haiga, DailyHaiga will also consider haiga that pair new images with previously published literary components (e.g. haiku and related poetic forms). DailyHaiga will not consider haiga that have previously appeared online in any form.

DailyHaiku would like to congratulate our co-editor, Nicole Pakan, who is competing today at the national level in the 2009 CBC Poetry Faceoff. Nicole was the winner of the Edmonton regional competition, and moved on to compete against nine other poets from across Canada. If you'd like to listen the Nicole's performance, the audio of her competition poem "Davinci's Parachute" and other information is available on the CBC website: http://www.cbc.ca/poetryfaceoff/ . The winner of the CBC National Faceoff will be determined today by an online voting process, and announced on Friday, May 1st. We wish Nicole the best of luck!

We are thrilled to announce our new contributor team, selected from a record number of excellent submissions. The new contributors are (in order of publication): Catherine J.S. Lee, Greg Schwartz, Richard Krawiec, Patricia Benedict, Robert Moyer, and Megan Arkenberg. Congratulations to our new team; we think you'll be as excited as we are when you see their work.

Also online is a new special feature by Ray Rasmussen: Special Feature 5—Modern English Language Haibun. Ray's article gives both background and insights on the haibun form, and shares some of his recent work (text and audio).

Lastly, we are happy to welcome to DailyHaiku our first Invited Poet: Frogpond editor and a founder of Haiku Canada, George Swede. Each cycle, we will invite a different poet to help kick off our new contributor team with a week of brand new haiku; we are honoured to have George as the first poet in this series.

Submissions for DailyHaiku Cycle 7 are now closed. This cycle we received a record number of submissions—almost double that of our previous cycles. We are thrilled and honoured by your interest in DailyHaiku. All submitted material will be reviewed in the next few days, and we will get back to everyone within the week. We have some exciting surprises planned to help kick off the new contributor cycle, so be sure to drop by on April 5th for the start of Cycle 7!
