What was I doing?
Collecting ephemera?
For what?
No poems in a month.
Every metaphor, sixth rate.
Too many lost words, maybe.
That stained journal,
abandoned. How like mourning
her black ink.
sidewalk roses: windows
into more fragrant and colorful worlds
sleep-colored
tires on asphalt
no awning,
only an umbrella
for the flower vendor
more rain:
the cat shreds another
paper bag
